HFH Huron Valley

HHHV_logoHabitat for Humanity of Huron Valley (HHHV) is a nonprofit, volunteer-driven organization that works to provide affordable homeownership opportunities for hardworking and deserving families in Washtenaw County. They build and renovate homes in partnership with families who demonstrate need and a willingness to work with Habitat to purchase a home of their own. With the help of thousands of supporters, they have helped over 100 families in our community achieve the dream of affordable homeownership. Each Habitat construction site provides a setting for people from all walks of life to work side by side in partnership with future homeowners.

Habitat depends on volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of cash, building materials, professional services, and property to build simple, decent homes with low-income families. Habitat homeowners qualify for an interest-free mortgage from Habitat, make a modest down payment, and put in at least 300 hours (per adult household member) of “sweat equity” on their home and other families’ homes. Habitat families also take financial management classes, home maintenance classes, and legal classes to prepare them for the responsibilities of homeownership.

Huron Valley currently strives to complete their 300th home by the year 2020. In 2006, they completed 50 homes in 17 years and are now doubling their capacity from building 6 homes a year to renovating 15 homes this year, with a goal of renovating 20 per year by 2017. They are currently on track to meet their audacious goal!
